Geoffrey Bent 1933 – 2007
Geoffrey Bent a member of Wanderers St Faiths Petanque Club died suddenly on Sunday 25 November 2007.
Geoffrey who I had known for many years approached me about 3 years ago about playing petanque. I introduced him to our club which he joined. He enjoyed playing so much that he made a terrain in his garden (even with a floodlight) which was his home terrain for the winter league and where he used to practise most summer evenings with his wife Eileen who also ended up joining the club and where my family had some fun evenings with them. Geoffrey played the game for pleasure more than winning, never got upset about losing and was a very good sport. He will be greatly missed as a very loyal member of the Wanderers Wildcats team.

DOUG AMOS 1934 to 2008
Doug and Pat joined the Bob Carter Pétanque Club in 1984 and Doug quickly became one of our most active members.
On the playing front, he was keen to improve, and bought half a dozen sets of boules before he found one to suit! Pétanque soon became his main leisure interest and he played in all of the local leagues, as well as weekend competitions. He represented Norfolk at home and abroad and Anglia Region at Brean Sands.
But most of Doug’s success was on the terrain - literally!! Doug was BCCPC’s unofficial grounds man and for ten years he kept the terrain in tip top condition. He refurbished the shed - even installing electricity and a heater! His creativity, energy and engineering skills knew no bounds. He made scoreboards, a safety barrier, garden furniture, and even made and erected a flag pole! He could turn his hand to anything! One of his endearing qualities was the way he would occasionally muddle his words. His long time winter league partner’s name was a particular challenge. I’m afraid that Tony D’Esposito was often inadvertently referred to as Tony Depositoes! - Typical Doug!
He was instrumental in developing junior pétanque players in Norfolk, and most of his younger grandchildren took up the sport. Some of the junior competitions which he organised had more than twenty entries - a lasting legacy.
Doug died after a short illness and was thinking of others until the very end. He will be badly missed by his very many friends and family both in pétanque and far beyond.

TRIBUTE TO JANET TAYLOR
As most of you already know about the sad loss of Janet on February 1st 2008.
Brian, Paul and Bob would like to thank all players and clubs for their cards of sympathy and floral tributes.
Janet was a much respected petanque player and has represented the Norwich Club, the County and the Region at various levels, including being a member of the Anglia team which won the National Inter Regional Championship at Poole in 1991. Most recently the top player in Norfolk County League Division 1 2007.
Janet was very popular with other players because of her happy personality and smile.
Janet will be sadly missed by all.
